Privacy Policy — Happy Journal

Happy Journal ("the app") is a gratitude journal. This policy explains, in plain language, what the app does with your information.

The short version

• Your notes, moods, hashtags, photos, and Happy Lists are stored in your own account so they sync to your devices. They are private unless you choose to make a list public.
• We use your email address only to sign you in and to send account emails such as password resets.
• We do not sell data, show personalized ads, or use tracking of any kind. The app shows a few banner ads to stay free; they are never targeted using anything about you.
• You can delete your account and every piece of your data from inside the app at any time.

What we store

When you create an account we store your email address, a random user ID, and the display name you choose. When you use the app we store what you write: journal notes, the mood and hashtags attached to them, photos you attach, and the Happy Lists and items you create.

This data lives in a database and file storage hosted by Supabase in the United States, protected by row-level security so that only your account can read or change it. Data travels over encrypted connections.

Public Happy Lists

A Happy List is private by default. If you switch a list to Public, the list title and its items (including links and photos on those items) become viewable by anyone who has the link, on our share page. Your notes, email, and name are never part of a public list. Switching the list back to Private takes it off the share page immediately.

Photos

If you attach a photo to a note or a list item, the app asks for access to only the photos you pick. Note photos are stored privately and served to you through short-lived signed links. Photos on public lists are viewable by anyone with the list link.

Advertising

The app shows a small number of banner ads (at the bottom of the Notes list, below the Insights charts, and under the template card on Happy Lists). Ads are served by Zen Ad Network, which we operate.

When a banner loads, the app asks the ad server for a creative for that slot. The request contains only the name of the ad slot and a size. It carries no identifier, no account information, and nothing about your notes, moods, or lists. The ad server counts two things: whether a creative was shown and whether it was tapped. Neither is linked to a person or a device. There is no advertising identifier and no App Tracking Transparency prompt, because there is nothing to track.

What we do not do

• We do not sell or rent your data.
• We do not use your content to train AI models.
• We do not use analytics SDKs, fingerprinting, or cross-app tracking.
• We do not read your notes; access is limited to what is needed to run the service.

Your choices

• Edit or delete any note, photo, list, or item from inside the app.
• Make lists private at any time.
• Delete your account from Profile → Delete account. This permanently removes your account, notes, photos, lists, and items from our systems. Please note that a public list link may remain in someone's browser cache briefly after deletion.
• Export: contact us and we will send you a copy of your data.

Children

Happy Journal is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will update the effective date above and note the change on the support page.
